PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has called on Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice to intervene in an ongoing dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, accusing him of serious financial misconduct.
In letters submitted to authorities, the investor alleges that he was defrauded and financially harmed through breaches of trust and questionable business practices by Yamada, a Japanese national who serves as the company’s chairman. The shareholder is seeking official support to ensure a full and transparent investigation.
The investor claims that several real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated with inflated purchase prices, with preliminary findings indicating that approximately $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal use and that of others linked to Yamada. The allegations also include fictitious loan arrangements exceeding $7 million, forged documents, and large cash transfers routed through shell companies connected to Yamada and his associates. Some of these funds were reportedly transferred to an overseas account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
According to the letters, Yamada is accused of creating shell companies across Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia using nominees, while maintaining direct control over the associated bank accounts and transactions.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have already filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and other individuals, and court orders have frozen certain assets and bank accounts. The letters indicate that investigations are also ongoing in multiple jurisdictions, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, focusing on embezzlement, money laundering, document forgery, and breaches of trust.
The investor urged Cambodian authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, warning that without prompt action, suspects could attempt to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
The matter remains under active investigation, with no official response yet from Cambodian authorities.
